IndianBureaucracy.com Greets all people of Telangana on its Formation Day today | Telangana, situated on the south-central stretch of the Indian peninsula on the high Deccan Plateau, is the 12th largest and 12th most populated state in India. It has a geographical area of 112,077 square kilometers (43,273 square miles) and a population of 35,193,978 residents according to the 2011 census. The region was separated from the northwestern part of Andhra Pradesh to become the 29th state, with Hyderabad as its historic capital. Other significant cities in Telangana include Warangal, Nizamabad, Khammam, and Karimnagar.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Telangana on the State’s Formation Day.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said; “On the Formation Day of Telangana, my greetings to the people of this wonderful state. The skills of its people and the richness of its culture are greatly admired. I pray for the well-being and prosperity of Telangana.”

Telangana shares borders with Maharashtra to the north, Chhattisgarh to the east, Karnataka to the west, and Andhra Pradesh to the east and south. The terrain of Telangana is characterized by hills, mountain ranges, and dense forests covering an area of 27,292 square kilometers (10,538 square miles). Currently, the state is divided into 33 districts.

Throughout ancient times and the Middle Ages, the region known today as Telangana was ruled by prominent Indian powers such as the Cholas, Mauryans, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, Delhi Sultanate, Bahmani Sultanate, and Golconda Sultanate. During the 16th and 17th centuries, it came under Mughal rule, and in the 18th century and British Raj, it was governed by the Nizam of Hyderabad. The British annexation of the Northern Circars in 1823 deprived the Hyderabad State of its coastline, transforming it into a landlocked princely state in the central Deccan, surrounded by British India. The Northern Circars were later governed as part of the Madras Presidency until India’s independence in 1947.

Following an Indian military invasion, Hyderabad state joined the Union of India in 1948. In 1956, as part of the linguistic reorganization of states, the Hyderabad State was dissolved and Telangana was merged with the Telugu-speaking Andhra State (formerly part of the Madras Presidency) to form Andhra Pradesh. A peasant-driven movement advocating for separation from Andhra Pradesh began in the early 1950s and eventually led to the granting of statehood to Telangana on June 2, 2014, under the leadership of K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Telangana possesses the eighth-largest state economy in India, with a gross domestic product (GDP) of ₹9.7 lakh crore (US$140 billion) and a per capita GDP of ₹228,000 (US$3,200). It ranks 22nd among Indian states in terms of the human development index and has become a significant hub for the robust IT software, industry, and services sectors. Additionally, the state serves as the primary administrative center for various Indian defense aerospace and research laboratories, including Bharat Dynamics Limited, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Defence Research and Development Organisation, and Defence Research and Development Laboratory. Telangana has also committed to adopting world-class emission norms starting from April 2020.

The cultural epicenters of Telangana, Hyderabad, and Warangal, are renowned for their opulence and historic landmarks, such as the Charminar, Qutb Shahi Tombs, Paigah Tombs, Falaknuma Palace, Chowmahalla Palace, Warangal Fort, Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, Thousand Pillar Temple, and Bhongir Fort in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. The historic city of Golconda in Hyderabad gained prominence as a diamond trading center, with the Golconda market being the primary source of some of the world’s finest and largest diamonds until the late 19th century. The region of Golconda has produced globally famous diamonds like the colorless Koh-i-Noor (United Kingdom), blue Hope (United States), pink Daria-i-Noor (Iran), white Regent (France), Dresden Green (Germany), colorless Orlov (Russia), Nizam and Jacob (India), as well as now-lost diamonds like Florentine Yellow, Akbar Shah, and Great Mogul. Noteworthy religious structures in Telangana include the Lakshmi Narasimha Temple in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad, and Medak Cathedral, all of which hold significance as popular places of worship.
