Shri Abhishek Prakash IAS (Uttar Pradesh 2006) has been appointed as Secretary – General Administration Department, Uttar Pradesh.
Shri Abhishek Prakash, a distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service, has carved a notable career marked by administrative versatility, field experience, and policy-level expertise. An alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, he holds a B.Tech. in Electronics with First Division. His strong academic foundation has consistently reflected in his analytical approach and structured decision-making across diverse administrative assignments.
Belonging to the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Shri Prakash began his administrative journey with foundational field postings, including his tenure as Sub-Divisional Officer in Tuensang and assignments in Nagaland under inter-cadre deputation. These early roles provided him with valuable exposure to grassroots governance, particularly in land revenue management and sub-divisional administration, helping him develop a nuanced understanding of local administrative challenges.
He subsequently moved into key departmental roles within the state government, serving in the Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department and the Home Department. As Deputy Secretary in the Home Department, he dealt with sensitive matters relating to internal administration, law and order, and governance coordination. His brief but important stint as Special Secretary in the Finance Department further strengthened his grasp of fiscal management and policy formulation.
Shri Prakash’s leadership abilities came to the fore during his tenure as District Magistrate and Collector in several districts, including Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Hamirpur, and later Lucknow. In these roles, he was responsible for overseeing district administration, maintaining law and order, and implementing development programs. His tenure as District Magistrate, Lucknow, stands out for handling the complexities of urban governance, where administrative responsiveness and coordination across multiple agencies are critical.
In addition to his district assignments, he has also contributed to urban governance and infrastructure management as Managing Director in Nagar Nigam-related functions in Uttar Pradesh. In this capacity, he was involved in strengthening civic services and improving urban infrastructure delivery, reflecting his ability to handle both administrative and operational responsibilities.
At the Secretariat level, Shri Prakash has held several key positions, including Secretary in the Home Department and roles in Personnel and Administrative Reforms. Since June 2022, he has been serving as Secretary to the Government in Uttar Pradesh, handling Personnel and General Administration. This role is central to the functioning of the state government, involving кадров management, administrative coordination, and policy implementation across departments.
Throughout his career, Shri Abhishek Prakash has demonstrated a consistent ability to adapt to varied administrative environments, ranging from remote field postings to high-level policy roles.
