Shri Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh IAS (Karnataka 2008), presently waiting posting is appointed as Executive Director – Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, Bengaluru, relieving Shri Sangappa IAS (Karnataka 2016), declaring the post equivalent to the cadre post of Secretary to Government of Karnataka (Super Time Scale of IAS).
Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust (SAST) is an autonomous body under the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department, established in 2009 to implement health assurance schemes for economically weaker sections. A key function of SAST is providing financial aid to patients with rare diseases, particularly when treatment is unavailable in government hospitals. Registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882, it was created as a special-purpose vehicle to ensure the efficient and cost-effective execution of government health initiatives.
By streamlining healthcare services and leveraging public-private partnerships, SAST plays a crucial role in strengthening Karnataka’s healthcare system and improving medical access for underserved populations.
Initially formed to administer the Vajpayee Arogyashree Health Assurance Scheme for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, SAST has since expanded its role to manage multiple healthcare schemes, including Jyothi Sanjeevini and Rajiv Arogya Bhagya. It empanels both public and private hospitals, creating a comprehensive healthcare network to improve access to medical treatment in the state.
