The Telangana State would be developed into a start-up and defence capital base of India in the coming years, opined Shri Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary and Shri Jayaraman, Director of DRDL at the inauguration of Chamber for Indian Industries, Telangana’s annual meeting .

Mr. Ranjan said that the T-Hub has tied-up with industries in the UK, the US and Israel and is growing steadily. The mega incubator has also taken in young student entrepreneurs from colleges to bring up a brand of youth who are good at innovation. Speaking at the meet, Dr. Jayaraman, senior scientist and Director of Defence Research Development Laboratory, Hyderabad said the city offers a conducive atmosphere for defence research, innovation and equipment development. “The city with its three esteemed defence laboratories will soon become the defence base of India,” he said.

Telangana has developed a supporting start-up ecosystem as it is using a sand-box model to help develop rural entrepreneurship. “The first initiative started in Nizamabad district as Kakatiya Sand Box which encourages entrepreneurial ventures among youth,” said Shri. Ranjan at the meet. Observing new trends in the start-up world, Shri. Rajan said the average age of young entrepreneurs has been coming down over the past two years. “Besides, breakthrough innovations and technologies are primarily coming from start-ups,” he said. Meanwhile, at the defence section, the DRDO has decided to increase indigenous content for more than 60 per cent of defence production and to involve private sector players towards achieving this target. “We are looking at helping the industry set up composite clusters,” DRDL Director said adding that the defence organisations were expecting to strengthen innovation ecosystem by partnering with various industries, especially young entrepreneurs and small and medium scale companies. “Hyderabad has the potential to become the new base for defence production,” he added. During the session, an MoU was signed between the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Telangana and CII to partner in a mega plantation drive of the State government. As per the MoU, 25 lakh saplings would be planted on a single day.
