Shri Das possesses a strong academic background that complements his administrative career. He graduated with a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electronics from the Regional Engineering College (REC), Calicut—now the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut—securing First Division. His engineering education has provided him with analytical and problem-solving skills that have proved valuable in addressing complex administrative challenges and managing large public institutions.
Healthcare administration has remained a defining feature of Shri Das’s career. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department from January 2021 to January 2024, where he played an important role in policy implementation and institutional management. Earlier, he held the positions of Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary in the same department, contributing to the planning and execution of key healthcare programmes, medical administration, and public health initiatives. His long association with the department reflects both his expertise and the confidence placed in him to handle critical responsibilities in the health sector.
In early 2024, Shri Das was appointed Election Officer in Kolkata, where he supervised important aspects of electoral administration. The assignment required meticulous planning, coordination among multiple agencies, and strict adherence to established electoral procedures, further demonstrating his versatility in handling sensitive administrative responsibilities.
Shri Das has also served as District Magistrate of Alipurduar, where he oversaw district administration, law and order, implementation of development programmes, disaster management, and public welfare initiatives. His tenure focused on ensuring effective governance and responsive administration while coordinating the work of various government departments to improve service delivery.
Earlier, he served as District Magistrate of Howrah, one of West Bengal’s most prominent districts. In this role, he managed a wide range of responsibilities, including urban administration, revenue management, infrastructure development, and implementation of government schemes. His leadership in the district reflected a balanced approach to administrative efficiency and citizen-centric governance.
An important phase of his career was his posting as Joint Secretary to the Chief Minister, Government of West Bengal. Serving in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat provided him with valuable experience in policy coordination, inter-departmental communication, and high-level decision-making. The assignment required close coordination across departments and contributed to the effective implementation of government priorities.
His earlier administrative assignments include serving as Additional District Magistrate in Paschim Medinipur and Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in Hooghly. These field postings provided him with extensive experience in district administration, land revenue management, law and order, and implementation of welfare programmes. He also began his career as Assistant Collector in Birbhum following his professional training, gaining first-hand exposure to grassroots governance and public administration.
