Dr Shailesh IAS (Tripura 2013) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary – National Health Authority (NHA), Delhi under the D/o Health & Family Welfare under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years.
The Government of India has appointed Dr. Shailesh as Deputy Secretary in NHA, a crucial body steering the nation’s healthcare reforms, including the flagship Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). With a distinguished academic background in medicine and a proven administrative track record, Dr. Shailesh brings both clinical expertise and governance experience to this pivotal role.
An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, under the University of Pune, Dr. Shailesh graduated with an M.B.B.S., securing First Class in both “All Medical Subjects” and “Surgery.” This medical foundation has given him a rare and valuable perspective in public service, allowing him to approach policy decisions with a blend of scientific rigor and humane understanding.
Since joining the Indian Administrative Service, Dr. Shailesh has held diverse and high-impact assignments across governance, urban development, public health, finance, and district administration. His leadership journey began soon after completing training at the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.
Over the years, he has served as Sub-Divisional Officer & Magistrate (SDO/SDM) in West Tripura, where his decisive and people-oriented approach strengthened local governance. His tenure as Deputy Secretary in the Finance Department, Tripura showcased his acumen in fiscal management and policy implementation.
In the health sector, Dr. Shailesh made a significant mark as Mission Director & Joint Secretary in the Health & Family Welfare Department, Tripura. Here, he championed public health initiatives, improved healthcare delivery systems, and focused on disease control programs, demonstrating a unique synergy between his medical knowledge and administrative skills.
His tenure as Municipal Commissioner in multiple postings within Tripura’s Urban Development Department reflected his commitment to building cleaner, more efficient, and citizen-friendly urban spaces. As Commissioner of the State Urban Development Authority and Director of Urban Development, he was instrumental in driving infrastructural improvements and strengthening municipal governance.
In the crucial role of District Collector and Magistrate for both West Tripura and South Tripura, he oversaw land revenue management, district administration, and developmental programs, always prioritizing transparent governance and citizen welfare. His brief tenure as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Health & Family Welfare Department reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening healthcare accessibility in the state.
Most recently, as Municipal Commissioner from December 2021 to June 2023, he combined strategic urban planning with grassroots responsiveness, ensuring sustainable growth for urban centers.
