RECPDCL Hands Over Hampapura Power Transmission Ltd (SPV of Intra State Transmission Project of Karnataka) to Resonia Ltd
New Delhi, May 30, 2026 | REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited and a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has successfully handed over the project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Interstate Transmission System (InSTS) Transmission Project of Karnataka, namely Hampapura Power Transmission Limited, to M/s Resonia Limited.
The transfer marks an important milestone in strengthening Karnataka’s power transmission infrastructure and facilitating reliable power evacuation and distribution across the state. The project has been awarded through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route, a transparent mechanism adopted for selecting transmission developers for major infrastructure projects.
M/s Resonia Limited emerged as the successful bidder through the competitive bidding process conducted by RECPDCL, which acted as the Bid Process Coordinator for the project. The transmission scheme will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis, a model widely used for large-scale power transmission projects in India.
The formal handover of the SPV took place on May 30, 2026. Smt Monisha Barua, General Manager and Head of Department, RECPDCL, handed over the project SPV to Shri Tushar Chhabra, Head (Business Acquisition), Resonia Limited. The event was attended by the Managing Director of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), senior officials of RECPDCL and representatives from Karnataka’s power sector institutions.
The transmission project is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing grid reliability and meeting the growing electricity demand in Karnataka. With rapid industrialization, urban expansion and increasing renewable energy integration, strengthening transmission infrastructure has become a key priority for the state and the national power sector.
The implementation period for the project has been fixed at 24 months. Once completed, the transmission network will significantly improve power flow capabilities and support future load growth in various regions of Karnataka.
The project includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art 400/220/33 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Hampapura. GIS substations are known for their compact design, enhanced reliability and suitability for modern power transmission requirements.
In addition, the scheme envisages the construction of a 400 kV Double Circuit transmission line of approximately 299 kilometres from Jagalur to Kadakola. It also includes a 220 kV Double Circuit transmission line spanning around 125 kilometres connecting Hampapura with Nagamangala, Maddur, Tubinakere and Huygonahalli.
Another important component of the project is the Loop In Loop Out (LILO) of the existing 400 kV Double Circuit Quad Moose transmission line from Jagalur-Kadakola to the proposed 765/400 kV CN Halli Station. The project also includes several associated transmission works required for ensuring seamless integration with the existing grid network.
The successful completion of the Hampapura Power Transmission Project is expected to enhance transmission capacity, improve network stability and support Karnataka’s long-term power sector development objectives. It also reflects the growing role of competitive bidding and public sector-led project development in accelerating infrastructure creation across the country.
The handover further reinforces RECPDCL’s position as a key facilitator in the development of India’s power transmission ecosystem, supporting the nation’s vision of a robust, reliable and future-ready electricity network.
