In a big step towards implementation of restructuring of the Income Tax Department, the Government has approved the promotion of 153 officers to the rank of Commissioners of Income Tax. The officers belong to 1992, 1993 & 1994 batches. With these promotions, the Department will be able to address the shortage of officers at various stations to a significant extent. These officers will be deployed in posts primarily dealing with matters of dispute resolution. It is expected that with these postings, the Department will be able to address the backlog of taxpayers’ appeals and offer better services to the taxpayers in the field offices.
A cadre restructuring of the Income Tax Department was approved by the Government in May, 2013. The restructuring exercise has gathered momentum this year with the Department moving towards filling-up posts at various levels.
