The Ministry of Power, Government of India, convened a crucial meeting of the India Energy Stack (IES) Taskforce on Monday to accelerate the development of the nation’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the power sector. Designed as a transformative leap in energy-sector digitalization, the IES initiative aims to create a unified, secure, and interoperable digital backbone covering the entire energy value chain. With REC Limited serving as the Nodal Agency and FSR Global as the Knowledge Partner, the initiative is progressing rapidly under the guidance of seasoned experts. Updates of this nature frequently draw attention in Indian Bureaucracy Latest News due to their national impact and administrative significance.

The central focus of the meeting was the collective review of two foundational elements shaping the future direction of the initiative—the draft IES Strategy Document (version 0.1) and the IES Architecture Document (version 0.1). These documents outline the vision, principles, technological framework, and regulatory architecture required to operationalize a nationwide digital energy ecosystem. The Taskforce members engaged in an in-depth roundtable discussion, offering strategic insights to refine the documents before the initiative moves into its pilot phase.

The meeting witnessed the presence of distinguished leaders and sector specialists. Taskforce Chairman Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma, Former Director General of UIDAI and Former CEO of the National Health Authority, provided guidance grounded in his extensive experience managing large-scale digital public platforms including Aadhaar and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Sh. Pramod Verma, Chief Architect and Co-founder of FIDE and former Chief Architect of Aadhaar, contributed inputs on the architectural and technological design of the energy stack. Vice Chair Sh. Pradeep Kumar Pujari, Distinguished Fellow at FSR Global and Former Chairman CERC and Former Secretary (Power), offered regulatory and strategic direction.

Other notable attendees included Sh. Ghanshyam Prasad (Chairperson, CEA); Sh. Alok Kumar (Director General, AIDA); Sh. Jitendra Srivastava (CMD, REC Limited); Sh. S. K. Soonee (Former CMD, Grid India); Sh. Vikram Gandotra (President Elect, IEEMA); Ms. Swetha Ravi Kumar (Executive Director, FSR Global); Sh. Sujith Nair (CEO, FIDE); Sh. Prince Dhawan (ED, REC Limited); Sh. Raveesh Gupta (MD, PVVNL); Sh. Debjani Ghosh (Distinguished Fellow, NITI Aayog); and Sh. Shashank Mishra, Joint Secretary (Distribution), Ministry of Power. Their collective expertise across governance, regulation, technology, and power systems has been instrumental in aligning the IES with national energy priorities.

In his remarks, Sh. Jitendra Srivastava, CMD of REC Limited, emphasized the significance of the meeting. He stated, “Today’s meeting is a pivotal milestone in our shared national ambition to create a unified, open, and future-ready digital backbone for India’s entire energy sector. The IES Strategy and Architecture documents are vital frameworks that will be enriched by the collective wisdom and guidance of our esteemed Taskforce members. The inputs received will help consolidate the framework and shape the pathway toward refinement and the pilot phase.”

The India Energy Stack represents a groundbreaking shift in how stakeholders, assets, and energy data will be connected across India. The DPI will facilitate seamless, real-time data exchange through standardized protocols, common digital registries, and open APIs. By establishing a federated, interoperable digital environment, the IES is expected to eliminate legacy silos and enable a host of innovations across the sector.

Among its anticipated benefits are enhanced operational efficiency for DISCOMs, accelerated renewable energy integration, support for green energy markets, and the enabling of consumer-centric services such as smart metering, demand-side management, and personalized energy insights. Members noted that what Aadhaar accomplished for digital identity and UPI achieved for digital payments, the India Energy Stack will accomplish for the power sector, redefining how energy services are delivered, accessed, and governed across the nation.

Moreover, the framework is built on principles of transparency, reliability, affordability, and inclusivity—elements that align with India’s broader digital governance vision. As with other large-scale digital reforms that often appear in Top Indian Bureaucracy News, the IES is expected to create long-term transformative impact for millions of consumers, utilities, and energy players.

The guidance received during the meeting will now be incorporated into the next iteration of the Strategy and Architecture Documents. Monthly Taskforce meetings have been scheduled to ensure continuous review, alignment, and fast-paced progress. This iterative, consultative approach will help refine the framework before pilot implementation begins.

The India Energy Stack project is targeted for completion by July 2026, marking a landmark in India’s journey toward creating a modern, open, and innovation-driven energy ecosystem.
