The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects totaling more than Rs 1330 crores in Goa as part of the Viksit Bharat, Viksit Goa 2047 program. The projects span various sectors such as education, sports, water treatment, waste management, and tourism infrastructure. Additionally, Shri Modi participated in a walkthrough of an exhibition and facilitated the distribution of appointment orders to 1930 new government recruits through Rozgar Mela, while also providing sanction letters to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes.
Prime Minister highlighted Goa’s natural beauty, praised its pristine beaches, and positioned it as a preferred holiday destination. He underscored the importance of Goa in embodying the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” year-round. PM Modi paid tribute to significant personalities born in Goa, observed the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, and acknowledged her association with the Mangueshi Temple. Furthermore, he shared insights into Swami Vivekanand’s inspiration from Damodar Sal in Margao and mentioned landmarks like Lohia Maidan and Chieftain’s Memorial in Cuncolim.
The Prime Minister highlighted the upcoming exposition of the Sacred Relics of St Francis Xavier, emphasizing its significance as a symbol of peace and unity. He also mentioned the relocation of Saint Queen Ketevan of Georgia’s holy relics to Georgia as an example of peaceful coexistence. Additionally, PM Modi elaborated on the development projects worth 1300 crore rupees, focusing on the sectors of education, health, and tourism. The inauguration of the National Institute of Technology’s permanent campus, the National Institute of Watersports campus, and an integrated waste management facility, along with the distribution of 1930 appointment letters, are expected to propel Goa’s development to new heights.
Goa, despite its small size, is socially diverse, and its people of different societies and religions have coexisted peacefully for generations. The Prime Minister emphasized the mantra of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, praising the spirit of Goans in maintaining harmony and responding strongly to those attempting to disrupt it. The good governance model of the Goa Government, under the concept of Swayampurna Goa, was lauded by PM Modi for placing the people of Goa in a foremost position in terms of well-being. The rapid development of Goa was attributed to the collaborative efforts of the state and central governments, referred to as the “Double-Engine government.” Achievements such as the saturation of essential services like water, electricity, LPG coverage, kerosene-free status, and open defecation-free initiatives were highlighted as indicators of progress. The Prime Minister emphasized the concept of “Saturation” as a means to eliminate discrimination and ensure the full transfer of benefits to all beneficiaries, describing it as true secularism and real social justice. Mention of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, where over 30 thousand people in Goa availed various benefits, showcased the positive impact of development initiatives in the region.
The Prime Minister highlighted the impetus given by this year’s Budget to the government’s resolution of saturating schemes, ensuring a guarantee of two crore houses to the poor after achieving the target of four crore pucca houses. He urged the people of Goa to create awareness among those who have been left behind in availing pucca homes, and announced the expansion of PM Awas Yojna and Ayushman Yojna in this year’s budget. The Matsya Sampada Yojna in the budget was discussed, emphasizing its role in providing additional assistance and resources to the fishermen community, thereby boosting seafood exports and increasing fishermen’s income. The Prime Minister noted that such efforts in the fisheries sector create lakhs of job opportunities. Government initiatives for the welfare of fish breeders were highlighted, including the formation of a dedicated Ministry, PM Kisan Credit Card facility, an increase in the insurance amount to Rs 5 lakh, and subsidies for the modernization of boats.
In this year’s budget, Rs 11 lakh crore has been allocated for infrastructure developments, a substantial increase from less than Rs 2 lakh crore 10 years ago. The Prime Minister asserted that development projects not only create new employment opportunities but also increase the income of every person in the areas where they are taking place. Efforts to enhance connectivity and establish Goa as a logistics hub were discussed, with the inauguration of the Manohar Parrikar International Airport and the completion of the New Zuari Bridge, the country’s second-longest cable bridge. The Prime Minister highlighted the ongoing rapid infrastructure development in Goa, encompassing new roads, bridges, railway routes, and educational institutions, contributing to the significant growth of the state.
