The Patna district administration is gearing up for the closing ceremony of ‘Prakash Parv’, a year-long celebration of the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.

The Bihar government had organised ‘Prakash Parv’ on a grand scale in the first week of January this year to mark the birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh guru, who was born in Patna. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“We expect three to four lakh people in the closing ceremony of Prakash Parv. Though the date for the celebrations are being finalised but as of now, the function will tentatively be organised during December 20-25,” Agarwal told PTI.

Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, is considered one of the holiest places by Sikhs around the world, besides being a major tourism attraction for people from all communities.

The district administration has started making preparations for the stay of pilgrims at a large tent city, which would come up in the state capital with a capacity to accommodate around 50,000 people.

“The administration is committed to make the closing ceremony a grand success with all sorts of arrangements like providing accommodation, langar, medical facilities, parking, etc. We will have weekly review of the progress work,” Agarwal said.

He said a dedicated cell has been set up, which would keep a tab on completion of work.

This year the main function would be organised at the Gurudwara itself, and not at Gandhi Maidan, the DM added.
