Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr L Murugan, will lead an Indian Delegation to the Tashkent International Film Festival in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This participation aims to foster cinematic partnerships, exchange programs, nurture filmmaking, and bridge cultural gaps.

The Tashkent International Film Festival, known as the “Pearl of The Silk Road,” was inaugurated in 1968, with the Indian film “Amrapali” screened in its inaugural edition.

Indian cinema has a rich history of global appeal, dating back to the days of Shri Raj Kapoor. Our storytelling and art forms continue to resonate worldwide, as seen with the song “Natu Natu” from Shri Rajamouli’s film “RRR,” which recently won the Golden Globe award for Best Song.

Under the theme “Showcasing India’s Creative Economy,” India’s participation in TIFFEST aligns with the vision of Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Youth Affairs & Sports. This theme promises to facilitate exciting and meaningful discussions.

As India strives to become a global content hub and create a collaborative film ecosystem, the Tashkent International Film Festival will serve as a platform for cinematic partnerships between Uzbekistan and other participating nations. The event will also highlight incentives for foreign filmmakers, encouraging them to explore opportunities in India.

Furthermore, the festival will be leveraged to promote the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled from November 20th to 28th, 2023, in Goa, India.
