MNRE & IREDA organise Conference on Odisha’s Green Energy in Bhubaneswar

The Global Wind Day 2024 which is celebrated on 15 June of every year, was marked by a significant pre-event conference organised by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), in collaboration with the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA), at the Welcome Hotel in Bhubaneswar. The conference highlighted Odisha’s substantial potential in the green energy sector and the strategic initiatives being undertaken to harness it.

Dr B K Mohanty – Director (Finance), IREDA, delivered a speech on behalf of Shri Lalit Bohra – Joint Secretary, MNRE, emphasising the rapid development of renewable energy across India. Shri Bohra highlighted India’s considerable progress in green energy, noting Odisha’s significant contribution. The National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) estimates India’s onshore wind potential at 1,164 GW at 150 meters above ground level, with Odisha’s share at 12 GW.

Shri Pradip Kumar Das – CMD IREDA, highlighted Odisha’s promising green energy prospects and potential to lead in green hydrogen projects. As of 31st March 2024, IREDA has disbursed Rs. 1,25,917 crores in loans for renewable energy projects nationwide, with Rs. 1,637 crores allocated to projects in Odisha. He also emphasised Odisha’s Renewable Energy Policy 2022, which aims to attract investments in clean energy, especially in renewable energy manufacturing and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen, green ammonia, and floating solar.

Shri Das urged renewable energy developers to seize opportunities in Odisha. He stressed the importance of renewable energy for sustainable national development and reaffirmed Odisha’s key role in India’s green energy future. The conference showcased Odisha’s green potential and encouraged investment in sustainable energy.
