Shri Kandarp Vajubhai Patel IA&AS (2012) presently Deputy Secretary in D/o Expenditure has been appointed as Private Secretary to the Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and Information Technology (Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw) in the M/o Information & Broadcasting (level of Director) w.e.f. 01.01.2026 for a period upto 21.11.2029 (i.e. for the balance period of his five years central deputation tenure) by The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet .

Shri Patel received his professional training at the National Academy of Audit and Accounts (NAAA), Shimla, during the 2012–2014 batch period, specializing in Accounting and Finance. His early grounding in public financial systems laid the foundation for a career focused on fiscal management, audit oversight, and institutional strengthening.
Currently, Shri Kandarp Vajubhai Patel is serving as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, a position he has held since November 2024. Based in New Delhi, he contributes to policy-level work and administrative coordination at the central government level. His role involves handling complex financial and administrative matters that require inter-ministerial coordination, analytical rigor, and adherence to established fiscal frameworks. During his tenure, he played a key role in planning and executing long-term professional training programmes for newly inducted IA&AS officers, as well as short-duration courses for in-service officers. Beyond classroom instruction, Shri Patel was actively involved in identifying domain experts from government, academia, and policy institutions to enrich training programmes. He also handled a range of administrative responsibilities essential for the smooth functioning of the academy. His contribution strengthened the academy’s role as a centre of excellence for developing professional capacity within India’s supreme audit institution.
Earlier in his career, Shri Patel served with the Finance Commission of India, a constitutional body responsible for recommending the distribution of financial resources between the Union and the States. Between January 2018 and November 2020, he held successive roles as Deputy Director, Joint Director, and Director. During this period, he contributed to analytical and administrative work related to fiscal federalism, intergovernmental transfers, and financial devolution. His association with the Finance Commission provided him with in-depth exposure to macro-fiscal policy, public expenditure frameworks, and centre–state financial relations.
Before joining the Finance Commission, Shri Patel served as Deputy Accountant General in the office of the Principal Accountant General, Hyderabad, from May 2012 to January 2018. In this capacity, he was involved in the compilation of state government accounts and in administering entitlement functions such as provident fund, pension, and gratuity payments for government employees of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This role strengthened his expertise in government accounting systems and service delivery mechanisms.
