Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva presently Acting Chief Justice -Madhya Pradesh High Court has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, is a distinguished member of the Indian judiciary known for his legal acumen and commitment to justice. Born on 26th December 1964 in Delhi, he began his academic journey at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, where he completed his higher secondary education in commerce in 1982. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi, in 1985. Demonstrating consistent academic excellence, he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, in 1988, securing a place on the University Merit List.
Justice Sachdeva was enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi on 1st August 1988. He quickly established a strong legal practice before the Supreme Court of India, the Delhi High Court, and district courts, and went on to qualify as an Advocate-on-Record of the Supreme Court in June 1995, securing the second rank nationally. He represented several institutions with distinction, including serving as Standing Counsel for the Bar Council of India for over two decades and as a Senior Panel Lawyer for the Union of India for more than ten years. His professional career is further marked by his designation as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Delhi in July 2011, in recognition of his expertise and standing at the Bar.
In 1992, Justice Sachdeva was awarded the prestigious British Council Scholarship and was one of five young lawyers selected to represent India at the Commonwealth Young Lawyers Course at the University of London. He also trained under the Indo-British Advocacy Skills Project and later served as a lead trainer, conducting advocacy skills training at several High Courts across India including those at Delhi, Ranchi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, and Imphal.
Justice Sachdeva was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on 17th April 2013 and became a Permanent Judge on 18th March 2015. On 31st May 2024, he was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur. He was entrusted with the role of Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court twice—first from 9th July to 24th September 2024, and again from 24th May 2025 onwards. Throughout his career, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva has earned respect for his integrity, clarity in legal reasoning, and dedication to upholding the rule of law.
