Justice Harpreet Singh Brar presently Additional Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court has been appointed as Permanent Judge – Punjab and Haryana High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
Justice Harpreet Singh Brar, born on December 20, 1975, is a distinguished legal luminary hailing from the village of Phulewala in District Sri Muktsar Sahib. His late father, Shri Gurbachan Singh Brar, a respected legal professional, served as Deputy District Attorney and Additional Advocate General for Punjab, inspiring Justice Brar’s illustrious career. He shares a fulfilling family life with his wife, a dedicated Kindergarten teacher, and their son, a Political Science graduate from the University of British Columbia.
Justice Brar’s academic journey exemplifies excellence. After completing his matriculation from DAV High School, Sri Muktsar Sahib in 1990, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1995 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1999 from the same esteemed institution. His commitment to justice began with his enrollment as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana on May 26, 2000.
Over a dynamic career, Justice Brar has made significant contributions to the legal profession. From 2009 to 2014, he served as Additional Advocate General for Punjab. His expertise was sought as Panel Counsel for prestigious institutions such as the Punjab Urban Planning & Development Authority, Punjab Pollution Control Board, and Punjab Energy Development Agency, among others.
Justice Brar’s leadership in the legal fraternity is unparalleled. Elected to the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana for three consecutive terms since 2008, he twice held the post of Honorary Secretary before being unanimously elected Chairman on March 6, 2019. Furthermore, he served as President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association for two successive terms (2015–2017) and was honored with the designation of Senior Advocate on May 26, 2021.
