A contingent comprising 120 personnel from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force has departed for Kazakhstan to participate in the 7th edition of the Joint Military Exercise ‘KAZIND-2023.’ This exercise will take place in Otar, Kazakhstan, from October 30 to November 11, 2023.

The Indian Army contingent, led by a battalion from the DOGRA Regiment, consists of 90 personnel. The Kazakhstan contingent mainly comprises personnel from the Regional Command South of the Kazakh Ground Forces. Additionally, 30 Air Force personnel from both countries will also participate in this edition of the exercise.

This bilateral exercise, initially known as ‘Exercise PRABAL DOSTYK’ since its inception in 2016, was later upgraded to a company-level exercise and renamed ‘Exercise KAZIND’ after the second edition. This year, the exercise has been further enhanced to a bi-service exercise by including the Air Force component.

During this edition of the exercise, both sides will practice counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional environment under the United Nations mandate. The contingents will jointly rehearse various tactical drills, including raids, search and destroy operations, small team insertion and extraction operations, and counter-unmanned aerial system operations.

‘Exercise KAZIND-2023’ will offer both sides an opportunity to understand each other’s tactics, battle drills, and procedures, crucial for operating within the United Nations framework. The joint training will develop the necessary skills, resilience, and coordination required for conducting joint military operations in semi-urban and urban environments.

This exercise will provide an excellent platform for both contingents to share knowledge, exchange views, and learn from each other’s best practices. ‘Exercise KAZIND-2023’ is expected to further strengthen the bond between the two armies.
