In a PSU News update, Ground Breaking Ceremony of SJVN’s 600 MW Kholongchu HEP in Bhutan was presided over by His Royal Highness, The Gyaltshab, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, younger brother of His Majesty King of Bhutan along with Minister of Economic Affairs Shri Norbu Wangchuk.   On this occasion Shri R.N. Misra, Chairman and Managing Director, Sh. A.S. Bindra, Director (Finance), Sh. S.K. Sharma Head of Kholongchu Hydro Electric Project along with other officers of SJVN were also present.

Shri R.N. Misra, Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN, told that the project is to be implemented by the Joint Venture Company of SJVN Limited and Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) Bhutan, JV Company has been named as Kholongchu Hydro Electric Limited (KHEL).

Inter-Governmental Agreement between Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) and Government of India (GoI) was signed on 22.04.2014 in Thimpu. The foundation stone was laid by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 16.06.2014. Environment clearance was accorded by National Environment Commission (NEC) of RGoB on 21.07.2014. The Shareholders Agreement for development of 600MW KHEP between DGPC and SJVN was signed on 30.09.2014 at Thimpu.

Hydro Power is the core strength of SJVN and the Company has the distinction of implementing India’s largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh and the Company is implementing 10 other projects in Nepal, Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Maharashtra.  The Company’s other two projects namely 412 MW Rampur HE Project in Himachal Pradesh and 47.6 MW Khirvire Wind Power Project in Maharashtra are already in operation.  SJVN which has already diversified in the field of Wind Power, Thermal Power and Power Transmission is presently generating 2000 MW of electricity.
