Indian Bureaucracy News, New Delhi, June 30, 2026 | The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of Shri Ravi Agrawal as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The Central Government has extended his tenure on a contract basis for a further period of six months, from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
Shri Agrawal is a distinguished 1988-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer fom the Income Tax cadre. He has close to four decades of public service experience, dedicating around twenty-nine of those years directly to the Income Tax Department. Prior to elevating to Chairman, he served as Member (Administration) within the CBDT starting in July 2023.
