In Assam, many schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have started training their teachers as how to make students aware of the danger of addiction to online games and teach them to use the Internet more judiciously and productively. Our Correspondent reports that the move comes in the wake of a recent guideline circulated by CBSE to its affiliated schools asking them to keep tabs on Internet surfing by students.

The circular -‘Guidelines for Safe and Effective Uses of Internet and Digital Technologies on Schools and School Buses’ – has been issued to the schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education across the country. The CBSE circular says that the potential of information technology as a valuable learning resource is immense. “However, if children use the Internet without safety awareness, they may fall prey to illegal activities or abuse such as cyber bullying, fraud or something even more serious like blue whale game.

Hence, awareness of Internet safety norms is absolutely indispensable to make children free to explore knowledge without feeling worried. The circular suggests that the schools create awareness among teachers about Internet safety norms, install digital surveillance systems, monitor online activities of students and sensitize parents about the problems of Internet abuse.
