BSI Renews REC Limited’s ISO 31000:2018 Recognition
Last year, REC Limited became the first Indian Public Sector NBFC to become ISO 31000:2018 (Enterprise Risk management Guidelines) Compliant

Indian Bureaucracy News, New Delhi, July 16, 2026 | REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Power, has successfully renewed its ISO 31000:2018 Letter of Recognition for Risk Management from the British Standards Institution (BSI), reaffirming its adherence to globally benchmarked risk governance practices.
REC, which functions as a leading infrastructure financing non-banking financial company (NBFC), said the recognition follows a comprehensive reassessment of its Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. The company is headed by Chairman and Managing Director Shri Jitendra Srivastava IAS, under whose leadership REC has continued to strengthen its institutional risk architecture while expanding its role in infrastructure financing.
The reassessment exercise was undertaken by REC’s Risk Management Division to evaluate and enhance the framework in line with evolving regulatory requirements, emerging business risks, industry best practices, and changing market dynamics. Following an extensive audit and evaluation process, BSI renewed REC’s Letter of Recognition for compliance with the principles and guidelines prescribed under ISO 31000:2018.
ISO 31000:2018 is an internationally recognised standard that provides principles, framework, and guidelines for effective risk management. It enables organisations to systematically identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate risks, thereby enhancing decision-making, improving governance, strengthening resilience, and supporting long-term sustainable growth.
REC had earlier achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Indian Public Sector NBFC to receive this recognition in July 2025, demonstrating its pioneering approach towards institutionalising a robust and enterprise-wide risk management culture. The company’s Maharatna status, accorded to select high-performing CPSEs, provides it greater operational and financial autonomy, making robust risk management frameworks central to its governance architecture.
By retaining the ISO 31000:2018 recognition, REC signals continuity in its efforts to institutionalise enterprise-wide risk practices at a time when infrastructure financing is increasingly shaped by market volatility, policy shifts, and sustainability considerations.
