The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has initiated a nationwide campaign to promote awareness and adherence to Indian standards at the grassroots level. This comprehensive effort targets Gram Panchayat Presidents and Secretaries across India, aiming to enhance the implementation of government programs and schemes in villages.
BIS, as the National Standards Body, recognizes the importance of these standards for citizens’ well-being, environmental protection, and product/service quality. The primary objective is to instill an understanding of Indian Standards’ significance among Gram Panchayats, emphasizing compliance while executing government initiatives at the village level.
BIS has reached out to 2.4 lakh Gram Panchayats, providing booklets of relevant Indian Standards and conducting sensitization workshops in collaboration with state and district authorities. The initiative enhances quality, consumer protection, and environmental conservation, aligning with India’s vision of progress. Additionally, BIS has developed the BIS Care App for consumer empowerment and encourages collective efforts for effective standards implementation in rural areas.
