As a part of its CSR initiative, Apraava Energy (formally CLP India), in partnership with SELCO Foundation, has benefitted nearly 60,000 people in disadvantaged communities through its five-year solar development program. The initiative that spans around 40 villages, resulted in reduction of over 130 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to planting 6,500 trees each year.
Apraava Energy, a joint venture between the CLP Group and the global investment group CDPQ (Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec), has an operational portfolio of renewable energy, including solar and wind, totaling 1,312.6 MW. These projects are spread across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka.
Commenting on the success of the initiatives, Dr. Priyesh Modi, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Apraava Energy, said, “We are proud to bring our core value of sustainability through responsibility into action by creating solar-powered solutions for the communities that reside around our operations. These interventions have not only focused on all-round community development, but also helped reduce significant greenhouse emissions. Apraava remains committed to working with the communities to address their needs and contribute to building a sustainable future for India.”
Established in 2002, Apraava has grown into a climate-conscious organization with a portfolio of 3,374 MW of installed capacity across 11 states. This includes over 1100 MW of wind and 250 MW of solar energy projects, a 1320 MW coal-fired power plant, and two power transmission assets covering approximately 494 kms. Additionally, the company has two greenfield transmission projects, two wind projects (325 MW), and two solar projects (550 MW) under construction. Apraava Energy is also involved in the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) business, executing orders for around 4.7 million smart meters in Assam, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh.
Apraava Energy has committed to low-carbon growth and is among the few Indian power sector companies to commit to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with its targets validated. In the future, the company plans to invest solely in renewable energy, power transmission and distribution, and other customer-focused energy businesses.
