Aniruddhe Mukerjee IAS empanelled as Secretary
Shri Aniruddhe Mukerjee IAS (Madhya Pradesh 1993) has been empanelled as Secretary at the Centre.
Shri Aniruddhe Mukerjee is a senior officer of the Indian Administrative Service with an extensive career spanning several decades in public administration, policy planning, finance, environment management, and governance at both the state and national levels. Academically accomplished, he holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Engineering with First Division, along with a Postgraduate qualification in Marketing and a Diploma in Management, both completed with First Division. His strong academic foundation has complemented his long and distinguished administrative career, enabling him to contribute effectively to governance, planning, infrastructure, and institutional development across a range of sectors.
At present, Shri Aniruddhe Mukerjee serves as Chairman of the Board of Revenue, Gwalior, a position he assumed on 31 January 2025. The Board of Revenue is the highest authority in the state for matters related to land revenue administration, and in this role he oversees key functions related to revenue management, land records, and appellate jurisdiction on revenue matters. In addition to this responsibility, he is also serving as Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Asset Management Department in Bhopal, where he plays a crucial role in strengthening the management and optimization of government assets, improving institutional efficiency, and supporting fiscal governance in Madhya Pradesh. Since August 2024, he has also been entrusted with the responsibility of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Madhya Pradesh Bhawan, where he supports high-level administrative coordination and government representation.
Prior to these assignments, Shri Mukerjee served as Principal Secretary to the Government in the Public Asset Management Department from September 2021 to August 2024. In this role, he worked on policy initiatives aimed at improving asset utilization, financial governance, and administrative efficiency within the state government. During the same period, he also held the additional charge of Director General of the RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration and Management in Bhopal, the premier training institute for civil servants in Madhya Pradesh. In this capacity, he contributed to strengthening capacity building and professional training for officers across the state’s administrative machinery.
Earlier, from November 2017 to September 2021, Shri Mukerjee served as Principal Secretary in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh. During his tenure, he worked towards strengthening sports infrastructure, promoting youth engagement initiatives, and supporting the development of sporting talent across the state. His leadership helped expand sports programs and institutional support for athletes and youth development initiatives.
Shri Mukerjee has also held key positions in financial governance and policy planning. As Managing Director of the Pension, Provident Fund and Group Insurance organization from January 2017 onward, he has been associated with strengthening employee benefit systems and ensuring efficient administration of pension and provident fund services for government employees. Before this, he served as Principal Adviser in the State Planning Commission of Madhya Pradesh from 2015 to 2017, where he contributed to development planning, policy formulation, and long-term economic strategy for the state. In March 2015, he briefly served as Secretary in the Finance Department in Bhopal, dealing with financial policy and administrative budgeting matters.
At the national level, Shri Mukerjee has held important positions with the Government of India. From October 2013 to March 2015, he served as Deputy Director General in the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), contributing to the planning and implementation of the Aadhaar program, one of India’s largest digital identity initiatives. Earlier, from 2011 to 2013, he served as Director in the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, where he worked on environmental governance and policy implementation.
His international exposure includes serving as Chief Technical Adviser with UN-Habitat in Nairobi from 2005 to 2007. In this capacity, he contributed to urban development initiatives and international cooperation programs focused on sustainable urbanization and development planning.
Within the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Mukerjee has held several important administrative roles, including Commissioner of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Department, Secretary of the Transport Department, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, Director of Budget in the Finance Department, and Additional Secretary in the Forest Department. These roles allowed him to contribute to diverse sectors including transport infrastructure, environmental management, rehabilitation programs, and fiscal administration.
At the district level, he served as District Collector of Khargone and Tikamgarh, where he was responsible for district governance, development administration, law and order, and implementation of government programs at the grassroots level. His earlier field assignments included positions such as Additional Collector in Jabalpur, Chief Executive Officer in Raipur, Special Officer in Varanasi, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate in the early stages of his career.
Throughout his long career in public service, Shri Aniruddhe Mukerjee has developed a reputation as a versatile administrator with experience across governance, finance, environment, planning, and international development. His wide-ranging administrative assignments, both in India and abroad, reflect a commitment to effective governance, institutional strengthening, and public welfare.
