Shri Amit Kumar IDAS (2014) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Steel, Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years .

Initiatives such as Steel Clusters, Scrap Recycling Policy, and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme are designed to improve efficiency and competitiveness. The ministry also coordinates with the Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable sourcing of raw materials and compliance with environmental standards.

The Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) is a key mechanism of the Government of India that regulates the appointment and placement of officers from various All India Services and Group ‘A’ Central Services in posts within the Central Government. Managed by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the scheme facilitates the deputation of officers to positions in ministries, departments, and organizations under the Central Secretariat.
Under the CSS, eligible officers are selected for assignments such as Deputy Secretary, Director, and Joint Secretary, ensuring a mix of talent and experience in central administration. The scheme promotes inter-service mobility, career growth, and exposure to national policy-making processes.
