Shri Alok Ranjan Jha IFS (2002) presently Ambassador of India to Belarus, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Zambia.

Mr. Alok Ranjan Jha, born on August 10, 1972, in Bihar, India, is a highly accomplished diplomat who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2002. His illustrious career spans over two decades of exceptional service, both in Indian diplomatic missions abroad and at the Ministry of External Affairs headquarters in New Delhi. His expertise and commitment have made him a distinguished representative of India’s interests globally.

Following his training at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Mr. Jha embarked on a series of impactful assignments, starting as Third Secretary at the Embassy of India in Paris (2004–2005). He later served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of India in Dakar, Senegal (2005–2008), where he adeptly handled political, economic, commercial, and cultural affairs. Returning to New Delhi, he excelled as Under Secretary in Administration and Human Resource Management (2008–2011) and subsequently as Deputy Secretary managing India’s relations with East and Southern Africa (2011–2015).

His diplomatic acumen extended to multilateral platforms as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of India in Geneva (2015–2017), where he played a pivotal role as part of the Indian delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Council. His tenure as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Kabul (2017–2018) underscored his courage and leadership in challenging environments.

Back in New Delhi, Mr. Jha directed India’s relations with Western Europe (2018–2019) and later served as Joint Secretary overseeing Establishment and Global Estate Management divisions (2019–2021). On July 30, 2021, he assumed the prestigious role of Ambassador of India to the Republic of Belarus, further strengthening India’s ties with this important partner.

Fluent in English, Hindi, and French, Mr. Jha’s linguistic abilities enhance his effectiveness as a diplomat. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he finds joy in reading and traveling, embodying a well-rounded personality. His remarkable achievements and dedication to fostering international cooperation reflect his unwavering commitment to serving the nation with excellence and integrity.
