Shri Awanish Kumar Awasthi IAS (UP 1987) has been appointed as Principal Secretary Information & Tourism along with religious affairs in Uttar Pradesh. He will also be director general tourism along with CEO to Uttar Pradesh expressways industrial authority (UPEIDA). Earlier all these positions were held by IAS Navneet Sehgal in previous government.
Mr Awasthi, who was Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has earlier served as District Magistrate in Gorakhpur, the parliamentary seat that Yogi Adityanath has been elected to five times since 1998. He was also District Magistrate in Varanasi, Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s parliamentary seat, apart from several other districts in UP.
