Shri C P Ramanarayanan presently Director General (AERO), DRDO, has been appointed to the post of Vice Chancellor, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, on contract basis for a period of 05 years.

Shri Ramanarayanan is post graduation ME in I.C Engines from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.He has been awarded Doctor of Philosopy(Ph.D.) by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, in the faculty of Energy systems for the Thesis entitled “Theoretical and Experimental Investigations of Two Phase Flow Condensation for Under Water Application”. Dr CP Ramanarayanan has been appointed and assumed charges as Director, Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bangalore from 2nd July 2012. Earlier to this he was Director at VRDE, Ahmednagar from Jan 2010 to August 2012. Prior to this he had been Technology Director for thermal torpedo at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam. He was Project Director for thermal propulsion development for heavy and light weight torpedoes. He was instrumental for starting work indigenously for development of thermal propulsion system for torpedoes at NSTL.

Dr. CP Ramanarayanan joined NSTL a premier establishment of DRDO on 25 Jan 1982. He had worked on various underwater weapon projects and has an excellent carrier profile. He is Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering, Fellow of Institution of Engineers, Member of Fluid Power Society of India and of Heat and Mass Transfer Society of India. He was promoted as Scientist ‘H’/Outstanding Scientist in August 2012 and his areas of interest include understanding human behavior and on intricacies about lateral thinking. For his outstanding contributions in development of thermal propulsion system for torpedoes from concept stage to realization, he was conferred “Scientist of the Year Award” in the year 2005.
