The launch of third Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, named Yard 77 (LSAM 9), took place in Guttenadeevi, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. The launch site is managed by M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd. This Barge is a proud symbol of India’s “Make in India” initiatives, with all major and auxiliary equipment sourced from indigenous manufacturers.
The contract for constructing and delivering eight MCA Barges was awarded to M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, an MSME, aligning with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives of the Government of India. The first MCA Barge was delivered on July 18, 2023, and the second was launched on August 18, 2023. These Barges are built under the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and have a service life of 30 years.
The availability of MCA Barges will significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy, facilitating the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to IN Ships, both at jetties and outer harbors.
