#SecretaryVisit: Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, inspected Shrimp Farms in Lahli village, Rohtak, and the Regional Centre of ICAR-CIFE, Rohtak, Haryana. He engaged with shrimp farmers to understand challenges faced in saline water shrimp farming.

#AquafarmingInitiative: Dr. Likhi emphasized converting wasteland into wealth through aquafarming. Saline groundwater issues in inland states were discussed, highlighting the potential for aquaculture practices to generate income. #SalineAquacultureStats: Currently, 8554.15 MT of shrimp are produced annually from 2167 hectares of saline water aquaculture in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan & UP. These states have 58000 hectares suitable for expansion.

#GeneticImprovementProject: A project for Genetic Improvement of Common Carp Cyprinus carpio for Inland Saline Aquaculture, costing Rs. 9.29 Crore, has been approved under PMMSY.

#ICARCIFERohtak: Dr. Likhi reviewed the activities, including the genetic improvement program of common carp, supported under PMMSY. Scientists briefed on various projects and activities. #TechnologyBreakthrough: ICAR-CIFE, Rohtak developed technology to fortify deficient ions in inland saline water, enabling shrimp and fish farming. The technology has been extended across multiple states.

#ScalingUpProduction: Dr. Likhi urged wider adoption of the technology in Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, and Punjab, emphasizing the vast potential for saline water aquaculture. #DoublingFarmersIncome: Government aims to leverage the 58000-hectare area in these four states to double the income of fish farmers.
