The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), chaired by Cabinet Secretary Shri Rajiv Gauba, convened to assess the situation in Sikkim.
The Chief Secretary of Sikkim participated in the meeting via video conferencing, providing the committee with updates on the state’s current situation. He also outlined the State government’s efforts in executing relief and rescue operations. The Home Secretary informed the committee that the Central Government is continuously monitoring the situation at the highest level, with both control rooms of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) closely overseeing developments and offering all necessary assistance.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already deployed three teams, and additional teams are on standby in Guwahati and Patna. Substantial teams and assets from the Army and Air Force are also being dispatched to support the state’s rescue and restoration endeavors.
In the review of relief and rescue actions carried out by Central Agencies and the Government of Sikkim, Cabinet Secretary Shri Rajiv Gauba stressed the prioritization of evacuating individuals stranded in the Chungthang dam tunnel and tourists. He recommended deploying additional NDRF teams and expeditiously restoring road, telecom, and power connectivity.
The Cabinet Secretary assured the Government of Sikkim that all Central agencies are prepared and available to provide assistance.
The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Sikkim, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, Secretary of the Department of Water Resources, RD & GR, Member Secretary of NDMA, CISC IDS, DG of IMD, DG of NDRF, and senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
