V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority in Tamil Nadu achieved a significant milestone by successfully handling 3×20 ISO Green Ammonia Containers, totaling 37.4 tons, imported from Damietta Port, Egypt, for M/s. Tuticorin Alkali Chemical and Fertilizers Ltd (TFL). Traditionally, soda ash production relies on Grey Ammonia. However, TFL has taken a Go Green initiative by importing Green ammonia for Green soda ash production on a trial basis. They plan to import 2000 MT this year, subject to Green Ammonia availability.

Green ammonia, also known as sustainable or carbon-free ammonia, is a type of ammonia produced using renewable energy sources and processes that minimize or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions. Traditional ammonia production, often called “grey ammonia,” relies on fossil fuels and is associated with significant carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
