The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), India’s National Standards Body, has launched 6,467 Standard Clubs in educational institutions across the country. These clubs aim to educate young members of society about the importance of standards in enhancing their quality of life.

In a statement, BIS emphasized the significance of nurturing quality-consciousness and scientific temper among students, recognizing them as the architects of India’s future. The initiative, launched in 2021, has already made a substantial impact, with 6,467 clubs established in schools and colleges nationwide. These clubs have over 1.7 lakh enthusiastic student members, guided by dedicated science teachers serving as mentors. These mentors receive specialized training from BIS.

The student members of these Standard Clubs engage in various activities, including standards writing competitions, quizzes, debates, essay writing, poster making, and exposure visits to laboratories and industrial units. BIS provides financial assistance to these educational institutions to support these activities.
