Registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882, it was created as a special-purpose vehicle to ensure the efficient and cost-effective execution of government health initiatives.

By streamlining healthcare services and leveraging public-private partnerships, SAST plays a crucial role in strengthening Karnataka’s healthcare system and improving medical access for underserved populations.

Initially formed to administer the Vajpayee Arogyashree Health Assurance Scheme for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, SAST has since expanded its role to manage multiple healthcare schemes, including Jyothi Sanjeevini and Rajiv Arogya Bhagya. It empanels both public and private hospitals, creating a comprehensive healthcare network to improve access to medical treatment in the state.
