With over 8 lakh cooperative societies, including AMUL, the sector plays a key role in agriculture, banking, housing, and rural development. Cooperatives also support initiatives like the Gobardhan Scheme and India’s largest Grain Storage Plan. The government has strengthened the sector through dedicated ministries, financial safeguards, and digital platforms like ONDC and GeM.
