Airports Authority of India (AAI), signed an agreement with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), for the proposed modernization roadmap of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/ Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) in India on 16th November, 2018.
The objective of this study is to develop a CNS/ATM roadmap for AAI for modernization of the Indian National Airspace System (NAS). Utilizing global and regional best practices as a benchmark, the technical assistance shall recommend a roadmap and implementation plan for AAI to improve airspace utilization and implement CNS/ATM air and ground equipage in the short, medium and long term (up to ten years). The Boeing Company (Seattle, Washington) will carry out the technical assistance which will create a roadmap to enhance communications, expand existing systems and airspace capacity, and invest in navigation and surveillance/air traffic management.
On this occasion, Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, AAI said, “India recently celebrated the 50th consecutive months of double digit growth which is still continuing. This growth has brought several challenges with it of maintaining safe and efficient aircraft operations. Hence, it was decided to draw a robust roadmap for sustained ANS infrastructure to meet the growth challenges in a planned way. We have entered into a grant agreement with USTDA, under which Boeing will provide the technical knowhow to develop a future roadmap for smoother and efficient skies”.
USTDA’s Acting Director, Thomas R. Hardy said “USTDA is pleased to partner with AAI and Boeing on improving safety and reducing congestion for flights in India. At the same time, this project will create market access for high quality U.S. exports that can advance India’s aviation goals.”
Mr. Thomas R. Hardy, USTDA Acting Director from Washington, USA signed the grant on behalf of USTDA, along with Sh. Vineet Gulati, Member (ANS), AAI from New Delhi, India through video conferencing.
