Rear Admiral Nelson A J D’Souza, presently Commandant, Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Indian Navy, is appointed as the Director – Operations, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).

As Commandant, Rear Admiral D’Souza is focused on strengthening MILIT’s academic programs, promoting tri-services integration, and bringing in close collaboration with industry and academia in niche technologies. MILIT, a premier tri-services institute, trains officers from the Indian Armed Forces and allied nations, equipping them as techno-warriors for future challenges.

Rear Admiral Nelson D’Souza, Commissioned into the Indian Navy in March 1991, holds a BE (Electronics & Communication) from SJCE, Mysore, and is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and Naval War College, Goa.

With 33 years of exemplary service, his key naval appointments include Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Eastern Naval Command; Principal Director (Weapon Equipment), Naval Headquarters; and General Manager (Refit), Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. He served as an Electrical Officer on INS Viraat (aircraft carrier), INS Kirch (missile corvette), and INS Mysore (destroyer). In 2018, he was awarded the Nau Sena Medal for distinguished service.

As Director (Operations), Rear Admiral D’Souza drives GSL’s shipbuilding and repair operations, leveraging his technical expertise to enhance efficiency and support India’s naval defence capabilities. Born in Kulshekar and educated at St Aloysius College, Mangalore, he brings strategic leadership to GSL, aligning with the Make in India initiative for self-reliance in defence production.
