Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, addressed the Dikshant Parade of the 75th RR batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. Several dignitaries, including the Governor of Telangana, Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), were present at the event.
In his address, Shri Amit Shah emphasized the significance of the 75th RR batch of the academy, as they will join the top leadership of the Indian Police system during the centenary of India’s independence. He noted that these officers would play a crucial role in ensuring the internal security of the country during their 25 years of service, aligning with the vision of “Amritkaal” set by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Shri Amit Shah discussed the role of the IPS cadre and the historical significance of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, emphasizing the importance of Sardar Patel’s role in unifying India and establishing a strong IPS cadre. He mentioned that the trainees of the 75th RR batch have a responsibility to implement the Constitution, ensure public rights, and contribute to the country’s development.
The Home Minister highlighted the evolving challenges in internal security, including terrorism, organized crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking, and more. He underscored the need for police officers to adapt to changing environments and move from “Reacting and Responding” policing to “Preventive, Predictive, and Proactive” policing. Shri Amit Shah also discussed the recent changes in criminal laws and called for the implementation of new laws with sensitivity.
He acknowledged the achievements in improving law and order, especially in areas affected by insurgency, extremism, and terrorism, during the last nine years under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership. The government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and is working towards a “zero tolerance strategy and zero tolerance action.” Shri Amit Shah also emphasized the use of technology and data analytics in policing and urged police officers to use databases and analytical tools to stay ahead of criminals, mentioning various initiatives to create comprehensive databases in the field of internal security.
The Home Minister’s speech emphasized the importance of sensitive and proactive policing, the role of IPS officers in safeguarding public rights, and their responsibilities in upholding the law and Constitution. He also highlighted the government’s focus on modernizing the police force and equipping it with the latest technology and data-driven tools.
