The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released the Third Advance Estimates of major crop production for the agricultural year 2022-23. According to the estimates, the foodgrain production is projected to be 3305.34 lakh tonnes, which is a record high.

The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, highlighted the continuous development of the agriculture sector due to the hard work of farmers, the expertise of scientists, and the farmer-friendly policies of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The assessment of crop production is based on feedback received from states and validated with information from various sources. These estimates are subject to further revision based on feedback, alternative sources, and other factors.

Here are the estimated production figures for major crops in 2022-23 based on the Third Advance Estimates:

Foodgrains: 3305.34 lakh tonnes (record high) Rice: 1355.42 lakh tonnes (record high) Wheat: 1127.43 lakh tonnes (record high) Bajra: 111.66 lakh tonnes Nutri/Coarse Cereals: 547.48 lakh tonnes Maize: 359.13 lakh tonnes (record high) Total Pulses: 275.04 lakh tonnes Gram: 135.43 lakh tonnes Moong: 37.40 lakh tonnes Oilseeds: 409.96 lakh tonnes (record high) Groundnut: 102.82 lakh tonnes Soybean: 149.76 lakh tonnes (record high) Rapeseed & Mustard: 124.94 lakh tonnes (record high) Cotton: 343.47 lakh bales (of 170 kg each) Sugarcane: 4942.28 lakh tonnes (record high) Jute & Mesta: 94.94 lakh bales (of 180 kg each)

The total foodgrain production for 2022-23 is estimated to be a record 3305.34 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 149.18 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year (2021-22).

The production of rice is estimated at a record 1355.42 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 60.71 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year.

Wheat production is estimated at a record 1127.43 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 50.01 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year.

Maize production is estimated at a record 359.13 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 21.83 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year.

The production of nutri/coarse cereals is estimated at 547.48 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 36.47 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year.

The production of moong is estimated at 37.40 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 5.74 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year.

Total pulses production for 2022-23 is estimated at 275.04 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 2.02 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year’s production.

Soybean production is estimated at 149.76 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 19.89 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year. Rapeseed & Mustard production is estimated at 124.94 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 5.31 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year.

The total oilseeds production for 2022-23 is estimated at a record 409.96 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 30.33 lakh tonnes compared to the previous year.

Sugarcane production is estimated at a record 4942.28 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 548.
