World Dyslexia Day

World Dyslexia Day is an annual observance dedicated to shedding light on dyslexia, a common learning disorder that impacts an individual’s ability to read and write proficiently. It poses challenges in tasks typically taken for granted, such as fluent reading and writing. Individuals with dyslexia often struggle to read quickly and write without making errors, facing difficulties in areas like reading, writing, vocabulary, and tasks requiring hand-eye coordination.

The day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the challenges associated with dyslexia and to highlight strategies for managing this disorder. Its primary objectives include promoting inclusivity, ensuring access to education, and implementing effective support systems for individuals with dyslexia in their learning pursuits.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), operating under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, plays a pivotal role in overseeing the developmental agenda for Persons with Disabilities in the country. In alignment with its vision to generate awareness about dyslexia, the department actively observes World Dyslexia Day through affiliated institutions. This involves a spectrum of activities, including webinars, physical seminars, awareness programs, marches, three-day workshops, and competitions such as posters and quizzes. These events take place at more than 30 locations across the country, aiming to engage and educate the public about dyslexia and fostering a supportive environment for those affected.
