Shri Subhash Prasad Gupta IFS (2006) presently Ambassador of India to Republic of Suriname, has been concurrently accredited as the High Commissioner of India to Saint Lucia, with residence in Paramaribo.
Mr. Subhash Prasad Gupta, a distinguished career diplomat from the Indian Foreign Service, joined the Ministry of External Affairs in 2006. Over the years, he has consistently demonstrated remarkable dedication and expertise, representing India in various diplomatic roles at home and abroad.
His overseas assignments reflect a breadth of experience and accomplishment. He has served in the Indian Diplomatic Missions in Ankara, Istanbul, Khartoum, and Vienna, where he held key responsibilities in political, multilateral, and bilateral affairs. At headquarters in New Delhi, Mr. Gupta excelled as Deputy Secretary in the Southern Division (2015–2017), strengthening India’s relations with ASEAN countries—particularly Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam—as well as Pacific Island nations. His expertise in multilateral diplomacy was evident during his tenure as Counsellor (Multilateral) in Vienna (2017–2020), where he contributed significantly to India’s engagement with Vienna-based UN agencies, including the IAEA and various export control regimes.
From 2020 to 2024, Mr. Gupta served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Hanoi, Vietnam, further enhancing India-Vietnam relations. His exemplary leadership led to his current appointment as Ambassador of India to Suriname, where he continues to elevate India’s diplomatic engagement.
Mr. Gupta’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a master’s degree in Political Science and a post-MA diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism. A gifted linguist, he speaks Hindi, English, Maithili, Sanskrit, Urdu, and Turkish, reflecting his versatility and cultural understanding. An accomplished poet, he has authored three acclaimed Hindi poetry collections: Anvarat Safar, Anvarat Mausam, and Anvarat Ishq.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Gupta is an avid traveler, birdwatcher, writer, and photographer. His creative pursuits underscore his multifaceted personality and passion for life.
