Details of Medical colleges operated by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) are at Annexure.
ESIC Medical College, Bihta has 100 seats per year. As on 21.03.2022, 81 students are enrolled in the academic year 2021-22 (First batch). Out of 100 seats, 35 seats are allocated for wards of ESI Insured Persons (IPs) for the ESIC Medical College, Bihta and 32 students are enrolled against allocated seats.
Setting up of an Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital is based on the Insurance Person (IP) population in a peripheral area. As per ESIC norms, IP population of 50000 for 100 bedded hospital is required within the catchment area of 25 kms. The present IP population in Darbhanga and Baghalpur is 10,000 and 18,961 respectively. Hence, both these locations do not qualify for an ESI hospital at present.
