Indian Bureaucracy, New Delhi, March 25, 2025 | REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a subsidiary of REC Limited, transferred three special purpose vehicles (SPVs), Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) projects to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. The projects, Banaskantha Transco Limited, Kurnool-IV Transmission Limited, and Rajasthan V Power Transmission Limited, were handed over under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route on March 24, 2025, in Gurugram.

The Banaskantha Transco Limited project will increase the transformation capacity at the Banaskantha (Raghanesda) Pooling Station (GIS) by installing two 500 MVA, 400/220 kV Interconnecting Transformers (ICTs) along with associated infrastructure. With an estimated cost of ₹143.35 crore, the project is designed to improve power transmission efficiency. The ICTs, each with a 500 Mega Volt-Ampere (MVA) capacity, will step down electricity from 400 kV to 220 kV, ensuring voltage regulation, stable electricity flow, and enhanced grid reliability. These transformers are vital components in substations, enabling smooth power distribution from high-voltage transmission networks to lower-voltage distribution systems.

The Kurnool-IV Transmission Limited project has successfully established a Kurnool-IV Pooling Station near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, enhancing power transmission capacity. The project included the installation of four 1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Interconnecting Transformers (ICTs) and four 500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs, ensuring efficient voltage regulation and grid stability. Additionally, it involved the construction of 765 kV transmission lines spanning 375 km from Kurnool-IV to Bidar and 127 km from Kurnool-IV to Kurnool-III. Completed at a total cost of ₹4,727.05 crore, the project has strengthened the region’s power infrastructure by enabling seamless high-voltage electricity transmission and distribution.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan V Power Transmission Limited project focuses on establishing a transmission system for the immediate evacuation of 2 GW power from the Sirohi substation and a common evacuation system for 4 GW power from Sirohi PS and Merta-II PS. The project is estimated to cost ₹4,736.23 crore. The implementation timeline for all three projects is set at 24 months.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) emerged as the Transmission Service Provider (TSP) through Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, the Bid Process Coordinator, for development of the transmission projects on Build, Own, Operate & Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The SPVs were handed over by Shri T S C Bosh, CEO, RECPDCL to Shri Pankaj Pandey, Executive Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited in the presence of Senior Officials of RECPDCL, PGCIL and Central Transmission Utility of India Limited.
