Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, commended the remarkable performance of Indian athletes at the 19th Asian Games, 2022 in Hangzhou, China. He held a meeting at Rail Bhavan, New Delhi, with Ms. Dola Banerjee, Sr. Sports Officer, Eastern Railway, and Deputy Chef De Mission of the Indian Contingent, along with Sh. Amit Rohidas, Asst. Sports Officer, East Coast Railway, and a member of the Gold Medalist Indian Men’s hockey team.
A total of 98 individuals, including 90 players, 07 coaches, and Ms. Dola Banerjee as Deputy Chef De Mission, represented Indian Railways (IR) at the 19th Asian Games. These IR sportspersons made a significant impact by securing a total of 22 medals out of India’s overall tally of 107 medals at the Asian Games. This accomplishment represents a notable increase of 58% in the contribution of IR players to India’s medal tally, compared to the 18th Asian Games in 2018, where they contributed 09 medals to India’s total of 69 medals. Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his admiration and appreciation for their achievements during the meeting.
