President of India inaugurates New Building of the Jharkhand High Court

On May 24, 2023, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the new building of the High Court of Jharkhand in Ranchi. In her speech, the President emphasized the significance of the event, highlighting the modern amenities and energy-conserving infrastructure of the new building. She expressed hope that the High Court’s environmentally friendly approach would inspire similar initiatives in other organizations.

The President acknowledged the importance of the court as a temple of justice and emphasized the responsibility it holds. She discussed the various aspects of access to justice, including the cost of litigation, language barriers, and the plight of undertrials. She called for innovative thinking and expanded efforts to ensure justice is accessible to all, particularly by making court processes more inclusive and accommodating to different languages.

Addressing the issue of undertrials, the President noted the burden on courts and the resulting challenges in ensuring timely justice. She commended the ongoing debates and initiatives aimed at improving the justice delivery system and addressing overcrowding in prisons. The President urged all stakeholders to address the root causes of the problem and work together to find solutions.

In conclusion, the President highlighted the need for effective implementation of court verdicts. She called upon the Chief Justice of India, Union Minister of Law and Justice, Chief Justices of High Courts, judges, lawyers, and other stakeholders to develop a system to ensure the implementation of verdicts. The President stressed that individuals who have invested their time, energy, and resources in legal battles should receive justice in a tangible and meaningful way.

Earlier in the day, the President paid tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Lance Naik Albert Ekka and interacted with members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in Jharkhand at Raj Bhavan, Ranchi.
