The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, delivered a video message to commemorate the 350th year of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation Day.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister expressed that the coronation day of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, within the framework of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, has brought about a renewed consciousness and energy for everyone. He highlighted that the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which occurred 350 years ago, represents a significant chapter in history. The Prime Minister emphasized that Shivaji Maharaj’s tales of self-governance, good governance, and prosperity continue to inspire people even today. He underlined that the principles of national welfare and public welfare were fundamental to Shivaji Maharaj’s governance. The Prime Minister acknowledged the grand event held at Raigarh Fort, the first capital of Swarajya, and celebrated as a festival throughout Maharashtra. He also praised the Maharashtra government for its planning and execution of the event.

The Prime Minister remarked that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation incorporated the spirit of Swarajya (self-governance) and nationalism. He highlighted Shivaji Maharaj’s unwavering commitment to upholding the unity and integrity of India. The Prime Minister noted that the vision of Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat (One India, Great India) reflects the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Stressing the responsibility of leaders to motivate and instill confidence in citizens, the Prime Minister noted the level of confidence in the country during the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He highlighted that centuries of slavery, invasions, exploitation, and poverty had diminished the morale of the people. However, Shivaji Maharaj not only fought against invaders but also instilled the belief that self-governance was achievable. By breaking the mentality of slavery, Shivaji Maharaj inspired nation-building and ensured people lived with self-respect. The Prime Minister mentioned that Shivaji Maharaj’s leadership was exceptional as he demonstrated military prowess at a young age by conquering forts and defeating enemies, while also implementing reforms for good governance as a king. Shivaji Maharaj’s vision encompassed both Swaraj (self-governance) and Suraj (good governance). He not only protected his kingdom and culture from invaders but also sent a strong message to those who sought to harm Swaraj, religion, culture, and heritage. This instilled confidence among the people and fostered the spirit of self-reliance, ultimately earning respect for the nation. The Prime Minister emphasized that Shivaji Maharaj’s system of governance and policies are relevant even today, focusing on farmer welfare, women empowerment, and accessible governance.

The Prime Minister noted that various aspects of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s personality continue to influence society today. He mentioned Shivaji Maharaj’s recognition of India’s maritime potential, expansion of the Navy, and exemplary management skills. The Prime Minister highlighted the forts built by Shivaji Maharaj, which still stand resiliently in the midst of the ocean despite enduring strong waves and tides. Shivaji Maharaj’s expertise in water management during that time remains awe-inspiring. The Prime Minister remarked that India freed the Navy from the vestiges of slavery by replacing the flag of the Indian Navy, which bore the identity of British rule, with the emblem of Shivaji Maharaj. This flag now symbolizes the pride of modern India in the seas and skies.

The Prime Minister expressed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s bravery, ideology, and commitment to justice have inspired many generations. His bold actions, strategic skills, and peaceful political system continue to serve as an inspiration.
