IndianBureaucracy, Bengaluru, June 6, 2024: India’s largest iron ore producer, NMDC (formerly National Mineral Development Corporation), celebrated World Environment Day 2024 at its Head Office in Hyderabad and various projects across the country. The event began with a ceremonial lamp lighting, led by senior management including Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD (Addl. Charge), Shri Vinay Kumar, Director (Technical), and Shri B. Vishwanath, CVO. The leadership, along with employees, pledged to protect the environment. A special video on the theme ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience’ was unveiled during the celebration.
Addressing the employees and emphasising on the importance of sustainability, Shri Amitava Mukherjee, said, “Earth is the only planet that supports life and has the potential to heal itself, but the question arises who will heal us? Are we living responsibly and preserving the resources for our future generation. We need to take care of our carbon footprints at an individual level. Our steps are directly related to intergenerational equity, so make a wise & sustainable choice for a better tomorrow.”
Shri Vinay Kumar engaged with the employees, highlighting the critical aspects of water management, deforestation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy for sustainable development. He further added, “Let’s take actions on conservation, leaving a healthy environment for the generations to come.”
Shri Amitava Mukherjee launched the NMDC Environment Day 2024 memoirs. He, along with Shri Vinay Kumar and Shri B. Vishwanath, also felicitated the winners of the Environment Day Contest held at the NMDC Head Office.
NMDC organised a plantation drive at its major project sites and hosted poster-making and essay writing competitions for students and employees to promote environmental awareness and involvement.
These initiatives emphasises on NMDC’s commitment to sustainability and its role as a responsible corporate citizen, prioritising environmental stewardship to benefit the planet and future generations.
