The Ministry of Coal is making concerted efforts to achieve its ambitious goal of producing over 1 billion tonnes of coal this year, focusing on transparency, timely decision-making, and streamlined planning.
In the current fiscal year, procurement through Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has already reached an impressive Rs. 23,798 Crore as of September 14, 2023. Remarkably, the Ministry has surpassed its annual target for FY 2023-24 of Rs. 21,325 Crore within the second quarter itself. In the previous fiscal year (2022-23), the target for Ministry of Coal, including its CPSEs, was Rs. 4,000 Crore. The actual achievement far exceeded this target, reaching Rs. 4,278 Crore, reflecting a remarkable 107% achievement rate. This remarkable feat was accomplished through close collaboration between the GeM team and the procurement team of Coal India Ltd. (CIL) to address technical challenges.
Coal India Ltd. and its subsidiaries have been instrumental in GeM procurement, contributing Rs. 23,363 Crore as of September 14, 2023. This surpasses its actual target for FY 2023-24 by 17%. With this accomplishment, Coal India Ltd. has emerged as the leading CPSE in the country for GeM procurement. Since its inception in August 2016, GeM has aimed to modernize the previous tender process and enhance transparency and integrity in government procurement through digitalization. Over the past seven years, the Ministry of Coal has remained committed to this digital transformation endeavor.
The significant procurement achievements of the Ministry of Coal through GeM underscore the platform’s effectiveness and efficiency in facilitating transparent and efficient procurement processes. The widespread adoption of GeM by various CPSEs of the Ministry further reinforces its success in simplifying and enhancing the overall procurement landscape.
