In conjunction with the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva Swachhata Pakhwada, taking place from September 15th to October 2nd, 2023, and in celebration of World Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism launched the Travel for LiFE for Cleanliness Campaign. This nationwide initiative underscores India’s dedication to cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The global launch of Travel for LiFE occurred virtually at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, featuring international organizations, G20 member nation delegates, industry leaders, and representatives from various State Governments. This event introduced the Travel for LiFE initiative and showcased numerous pioneering projects and initiatives designed to transform India’s tourism landscape.
The Travel for LiFE for Cleanliness Campaign is a nationwide cleanliness drive targeting 108 tourist destinations across India. It focuses on eradicating single-use plastics, promoting eco-friendly alternatives, enhancing sanitation facilities, and facilitating efficient garbage disposal. This initiative, aligned with SHS 2023, encourages schools, colleges, and members of Yuva Tourism Clubs to actively participate.
As part of the Swachhata Hi Sewa (SHS) 2023, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has identified 100 Centrally Protected Monuments and Sites (CPMS) and 55 site museums for comprehensive cleanliness activities. Special attention will be given to CPMS with water bodies nearby. The message “Swachhata Hi Seva” and the theme “Garbage Free India” will be displayed during sound and light shows at various CPMS.
The Travel for LiFE program is a key component of Mission LiFE, aimed at promoting environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, economic development in local communities, and preservation of socio-cultural heritage. It encourages responsible resource utilization among all tourism stakeholders.
SHS 2023, launched on September 15th, focuses on “Garbage Free India.” It has garnered massive participation, with over 22.41 crore individuals joining in just 12 days. This campaign involves 61 partner Ministries and Departments, emphasizing sanitation as everyone’s business.
In conclusion, these initiatives demonstrate India’s commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future, achieving both a cleaner India and a healthier planet.
