Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy presently Additional Judge now appointed as Judge of Madras High Court , in exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India to the President of India, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, vide notifications dated 03.03.2023.

Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy, graduated in Law from Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry (1988-93), was a general practitioner (from 1993) conducting litigations at the Madras High Court, Tribunals and Subordinate Courts at Chennai. Practiced along with colleagues T. Sai Krishnan and Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan as the law-firm “Sai, Bharath &Ilan”. Served as the Public Prosecutor for the Union Territory of Puducherry at the Madras High Court (from 2017 till date of his elevation ).

He is an Accredited Mediator (from 2005) with the Tamilnadu Mediation & Conciliation Centre, having mediated around 400 referrals. He is a Trainer (from 2007) in Mediation having trained Mediators & Referral Judges of several States in India. He has been the Joint Secretary and the Co-Ordinator of the Madras High Court Mediation Centre. He is an Arbitrator empaneled with the Madras High Court Arbitration Centre.

He has authored “Seek Mediation” an awareness booklet for the Tamilnadu Mediation Centre (2009); Co-authored the chapter “Mediation and the Madras High Court” along with Mr. Sriram Panchu in “The Madras High Court – A 150 Year Journey from a Crown Court to Peoples Court’’ by Mr.N.L. Rajah (2012); Translated the “Mediation Manual of India” in Tamil for the Tamilnadu Mediation Centre (2019); and authored the Chapter on “Community Mediation” in the book “Mediation Policy & Practice” by Chitra Narayan, Oak bridge Publications (2020).

He ran a mobile app ’lift – law in finger tips’, a bilingual free legal educational app (from 2013-2020). He is a trained volunteer with the Madras High Court Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC).
